You are keen to take-off into South Africa's skies but don't feel like using your holidays for an intensive bushpilot training? Then this guided tour is the perfect mix for you to get some airtimes as well as discovering South Africa. Perfect as well if you want to travel with a none-flying partner.
Day 1: After your arrival in Johannesburg you will have time to freshen up and settle in at our partner location Dakota Lodge at Rand airport. Have a sneak into the hangar and get close to their famous DC3 and Beech 18 before heading for dinner with your flying guide for the coming days.
Day 2: After a good night's sleep you are ready to take off. You will be leaving Rand towards routing West to catch a glimpse on Soweto, one of the biggest townships you can find. Heading further North West the discrepancy could not be bigger as you are flying over Sun City, a smashing und glittering holiday resort. After a round of sightseeing or two you are heading eastwards towards your destination, one of our partner lodges located North of Johannesburg.
Day 3: Today you will be heading towards the Waterberg Mountain range. Enjoy the change of scenery when the wide Savanna grassland gives way to gentle wood covered hills shaped over millions of years. Do you like playing golf? Within the Entabeni Conservatory you will find the highest (400m) and longest (361 m) par three golf hole in the world. The Extreme 19th on top of Hangklip Mountain is only accessible with helicopter. Fancy a try?
Day 4: It is time to head East and just enjoy South Africa's Savanna below before you arrive at Loskop Dam, with 30 km length the longest in the Southern hemisphere. Discover the river valleys as they find their way towards the dam and take in the unspoilt nature before turning back to your lodge.
Day 5: Take off and turn South East to fly over the surroundings of Carletonville, one of the richest gold mining areas worldwide. From here to turn westwards, cruising over Vaaldam and its lake - one of the biggest in South Africa ensuring water supply for the highly populated Gauteng province. Have a lunch break at the local field Brakpan Benoni with its busy aeroclub and amazing planes to spot before heading back along the eastern side of Johannesburg to your lodge.
Day 6: Today you say good-bye to African skies with a panoramic flight over Johannesburg city center bringing you back to Rand airport from where you will be heading of to your safari adventure in the Kruger Park. Your car is already waiting for you, packed with all maps you will need in the coming days. Do not worry: all self-driving routes are clearly marked tarred or broad gravel roads so you will be absolutely fine on your own! After a 5 hour drive you will arrive in the Hazyview area where you will stay for the first night.
Day 7: After you have enjoyed your breakfast you are moving into the famous Kruger Park via Numbi Gate in the South West of the Park. Follow H2-2 towards South East before heading North or enjoy the scenic S3/S7 alongside the Sabie River to get to your accomodation in the Skukuza area.
Day 8: Enjoy to be guided and learn even more about the animals and the abundant vegetation you have been enjoying yesterday by joining a guided drive or a walking safari offered by your accomodation.
Day 9: Are you ready to move on? You will be heading North towards the Timbalati area. Once again you sty for 2 nights.
Day 10: Enjoy your high class lodge and its services and guided wildlife experiences.
Day 11: Slowly but surely you will be heading back towards the gates of the park. Passing Satara you move South along H1-3 towards Lower Sabie where you will spend your last night in the park.
Day 12: Time to say good-bye and leave the Kruger Park via Crocodile Bridge Gate in the South to head towards Johannesburg and back into civilisation. If you like to work with tight schedules you can be leaving on a flight back to Europe tonight.
However, we recommend to take it easy and don't spoil your holiday relaxation just yet. Spend another night in Johannesburg and enjoy one last day in the city on sight seeing and souvenier shopping.
